Stargazing at Clark Reservation: A Unique Spring Night Under the Stars

As we start to move into spring here in Central New York, it’s not just about warmer weather — it’s also a great time to get outside and experience something a little different.

If you’re looking for a unique local event this April, Stargaze at Clark Reservation State Park offers a chance to slow down, step away from the everyday, and take in the beauty of the night sky.

Event Details

This special stargazing event is hosted in partnership with TACNY (Technology Alliance of Central New York) and takes place at one of the most scenic parks in our area.

  • Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2026
  • Time: 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Location: Clark Reservation State Park, Jamesville
  • Cost: Free (registration required)

The viewing will be held at the park’s ball field. Attendees are encouraged to park in the lot and walk up the pathway to the viewing area.

What You’ll Experience

This event is timed perfectly with the Lyrid meteor shower, giving attendees a chance to see shooting stars along with some of the best features of the spring night sky.

Depending on conditions, you may be able to spot:

  • Meteors from the Lyrid shower
  • Bright planets like Venus or Jupiter
  • Star clusters and constellations visible in early spring

It’s a relaxed, educational experience that’s great for adults and families with older children who are interested in astronomy or just want to try something new.

Why Clark Reservation Is the Perfect Setting

Located just outside Syracuse, Clark Reservation is one of the most unique natural spaces in the region. Known for its dramatic cliffs, wooded trails, and glacial lake, it offers a quieter, darker setting than more developed areas — ideal for stargazing.

Getting away from city lights, even just a short drive, can make a big difference in what you’re able to see in the night sky.

What to Bring

Since this is an outdoor evening event in early spring, a little preparation goes a long way:

  • Dress warmly (it can still be chilly at night)
  • Bring a flashlight for walking to and from the viewing area
  • Consider a blanket or chair for comfort
  • Give your eyes time to adjust to the dark for the best viewing experience

A Simple Way to Enjoy Spring in CNY

After the long winter we’ve had, events like this are a great reminder to get outside and enjoy what Central New York has to offer — even after the sun goes down.

Whether you’re interested in astronomy or just looking for a peaceful way to spend an evening, stargazing at Clark Reservation is a unique way to experience the season.
