From Pumpkin Spice to Scents: Crafting the Perfect Fall Vibes at Home
Fall is the season for all things cozy, and nothing says "autumn" like the smell of pumpkin spice and cinnamon! Here's how to make your own pumpkin spice seasoning and cinnamon-scented pinecones to fill your home with the scents of the season.
DIY Pumpkin Spice Seasoning
Skip the store-bought version and make your own pumpkin spice mix that you can sprinkle on anything from lattes to desserts. You'll need:
- 3 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 ½ tsp ground allspice
- 1 ½ tsp ground cloves
Simply mix all the ingredients together and store in an airtight container. Add a dash of this fall favorite to your morning coffee, sprinkle it on baked goods, or even mix it into oatmeal for an autumnal treat! Check out this article with the 35 Best Pumpkin Desserts You’ve Got to Try This Fall.
DIY Cinnamon-Scented Pinecones
Cinnamon-scented pinecones are a staple in fall décor (and can be great for Christmas too!), and making your own is easy! Here's how:
- Gather Pinecones: Head outside and collect some pinecones or buy some at a craft store. If you’re using found pinecones from outside, look for ones that don’t have any obvious mold or rot.
- Clean the Pinecones: If you’ve gathered pinecones from outside, make sure to NOT skip this step! When you bring them inside, give them a good shake over your garbage can to release any dirt. Feel free to gently rinse them under water as well, if you think it’s warranted. Next, bake at 200°F for 30 minutes on an aluminum foil lined baking sheet to eliminate any critters.
- Add Scent: Once cooled, place pinecones in a plastic bag (or gallon Ziplock bag) and spray the pinecones with a mixture of water and 12-15 drops of cinnamon essential oil. For a stronger scent, add some ground cinnamon into the mix. Also, feel free to add a few cinnamon sticks to the bag too!
- Seal and Wait: Tie off the plastic bag or zip up the gallon bag and let the pinecones soak up the scent. Let them sit for at least 2 days for the fragrance to develop, but best results occur if you let them soak for 1-2 weeks.
Decorating Tips for Cinnamon Pinecones
Once you've made your cinnamon-scented pinecones, they can add a festive touch to any fall décor. Arrange them in a decorative bowl as a natural centerpiece or mix them into wreaths and garlands for an inviting, rustic look. They also make great additions to mantels or cozy fall displays on your porch. Pair them with pumpkins, autumn leaves, and candles to enhance your home’s warm and welcoming fall aesthetic!
Now you have the perfect fall fragrance for your home!
With these two DIY projects, you’ll be ready to fully embrace the cozy, festive vibes of fall. Enjoy the season with pumpkin spice and cinnamon-scented pinecones, making everything feel warm and inviting!
